Sports are one of the greatest pastimes in civilization. However, as fun as they are to watch and play, they can also be incredibly dangerous. Now, it looks like Reebok has created a product that can help players everywhere.
Startup company MC10 partnered with retail giant Reebok-CCM Hockey to create a special skullcap that fits snugly under a player’s helmet. The special cap contains sensors that can detect how hard of a hit the player has taken. It can then alert the player as to whether the severity warrants medical attention or not.
“As one of the leading equipment manufacturers in the world, we are focused on not only improving the performance of amateur and professional athletes, but also doing whatever we can to protect players from possible injury,” said the general manager of Reebok-CCM Hockey, Philippe Dubé. “As we know, head injuries are of the greatest concern today, and there is still much to be learned in this area. This product is a significant step forward in this process and we’re very excited to be able to make it available to consumers for the first time next year.”
